Actress Song, Haegyo kept her promise. She donated all her money from the damages of the breach of her right of likeness to charity. This donation is planned to nurture designers in Shinjin.
Song, Haegyo donated all the money from the settlement from company J (jewelry brand) to the ‘Beautiful Charity’ on the 28th. She also added a comment by saying, “I hope this money will be well spent on students who are dreaming to become designers.”
According to the charity organization, the amount of charity was approximately $140,000 (150,000,000 KRW). According to special charity team manager in a phone call on the 29th, the money will be efficiently used to help low income design students’ education
Song, Haegyo sued company J on April due to the use of her face without prior consent. She filed a class action to sue the company to the Seoul Central District Court.
Before the sue, Song, Haegyo stated that the use of her face without consent to advertise was a clear breach of her right of likeness and promised that she will use all the reimbursement of the damages to help students in Shinjin help become designers.
The sue was just finalized and the Seoul Central District Court proposed a reconciliation for both parties and Song, Haegyo accepted company J’s compensation and donated it all to the promised charity.
On the other hand, ‘UAA’ stated, “Another strength South Korea has is culture. We hope the donation helps Shinjin Designers’ creative activity.”
